More than £13,000 has been raised for local food banks thanks to a Caerphilly County Borough Council appeal.

The appeal, which runs every year, saw residents, council staff, and businesses make online cash donations.

In total, £13,445 was raised and then given to food banks across Caerphilly County Borough.

Cllr Carol Andrews, the council’s cabinet member with responsibility for communities, said: “We recognise that the current cost-of-living crisis and the festive period poses significant challenges for many of our residents and we’re working to offer a wide range of support to those affected.

“Sadly, this has resulted in increased numbers of people relying on food banks. We hope this appeal helps food banks buy the supplies they desperately need to support even more residents during times of financial crisis.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has donated so generously this year and to those responsible for co-ordinating the appeal.”
