Passengers on the Rhymney line can expect disruption to some journeys over the next few weeks as services will be affected by a lack of trains. 

This is due to a shortage of Class150 trains, which have been damaged in recent bad weather.

Several train services will replaced by buses or partial bus services – meaning the bus will take people to a train station to catch an onward train connection. 

This has been in place since last week and no end date has yet been given.

However, a full service should return “within the next few weeks”, according to Transport for Wales (TfW). 

This change is on top of the 26 services which will be replaced by buses throughout 2024 due to work on the South Wales Metro.

A spokesperson for TfW told Caerphilly Observer: “As we continue the transition to a brand new fleet with new services on key routes, we are having to make some short-term changes to which trains are used for which lines for operational purposes.

“A small number of services are currently being replaced by buses on the Rhymney line and we apologise to customers who have been affected.

“We expect to be running a full service within the next few weeks.”

Passengers should check for the latest information before making their journeys. 

The spokesperson added: “Our journey planners are updated so people can see which are trains and which are buses on our website and app.”
