Two flats in Senghenydd could be converted into a HMO for five people, new plans show.

The properties, at 79 Commercial Street, sit at the junction with Gwern Avenue.

HMOs (houses in multiple occupation) are typically properties in which single, unrelated adults have their own bedrooms but share other communal facilities such as bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms.

Applicant Cejay Leitis has asked Caerphilly County Borough Council for change-of-use planning permission to reconfigure the inside of 79 Commercial Street.

Plans show the ground floor currently comprises a bedroom, kitchen, large living room, and bathroom.

Mr Leitis intends to convert the kitchen into a second bedroom, and create a joint kitchen and living room area instead.

Upstairs, on the first floor, another living room area would be converted into a bedroom with en-suite bathroom. A fourth bedroom would remain unchanged, but a kitchen area would become a shower room.

A loft area is currently a bedroom and would be retained as the property’s fifth sleeping area, according to the plans filed with the council.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 24/0505/COU.
