St Cenydd Community School in Caerphilly could have a new all-weather sports pitch to replace one of its existing facilities.

The sandy-coloured pitch below the site’s leisure centre is set to be removed, according to a new Caerphilly County Borough Council planning application.

In its place, the council plans to lay a new 3G-type sports pitch and install new floodlights and fencing.

The new pitch will roughly measure 106 metres by 69 metres, and will also include a touchline spectator area and team shelters, as well as recesses behind the goals along each byline.

Chris Morgan, cabinet member for sport and leisure, confirmed to Caerphilly Observer the pitch will be paid for via a £1million grant awarded to the council by the UK Government in 2023.

New £1 million 3G pitch to be built in the borough, but location yet to be decided

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 24/0605/LA.
