Work has officially begun on the new leisure centre

Construction work on Caerphilly’s new £38million leisure centre is underway, with the project expected to be completed by March 2027.

The new leisure centre is being built just off Caerphilly Business Park, near Caerphilly Railway Station, and has been described as a “state-of-the-art facility” by the council.

Funding for the new centre will come from both the UK Government, which is providing £20m, and Caerphilly County Borough Council, which will contribute a further £18m.

The two-storey ‘hub’ will feature a swimming pool with slides and interactive water features, a multi-purpose sports hall, health suite, fitness suite, Innerva suite, wellness area, future studios, squash courts, TAGactive arena, café, lounge, adventure play area, and community rooms, and more.

Cllr Chris Morgan, council cabinet member for leisure, said: “This is a proud moment for Caerphilly. Seeing our vision progress into construction is exciting and symbolic of our ongoing investment into the health and wellbeing of our communities.

“The Caerphilly Leisure and Wellbeing Hub will offer state-of-the-art facilities designed to serve residents for generations to come.”
