Winners at the 2024 Sport Caerphilly Awards

The finalists for this year’s Caerphilly Sport Awards have been announced, celebrating exceptional contributions from players, coaches, volunteers, and clubs across the borough.

Held at Bryn Meadows Golf Club on Friday November 7, the awards honour the dedication and achievements of individuals and groups who have contributed to the development of sport in Caerphilly.

The categories and nominees are:

Young Volunteer of the Year

This award recognises young people making an outstanding contribution to local sport.

  • Carys Morris – Urdd Gobaith Cymru
  • Eva Cecil – Caerphilly Tennis Club
  • Ioan Walters – Wattsville FC
  • Reuben Lee West – Welsh Contact Karate Association Caerphilly Club
  • Rhiannon Hughes – Caerphilly Tennis Club
  • Logan Sadler – Sport Caerphilly

Inclusive Coach of the Year

This category recognises those who break down barriers and make sport open to all.

  • Criw Cymraeg – Caerphilly Tennis Club
  • Julie Proctor – Dragonflies Trampoline Club
  • Kay Pritchard – Caerphilly Castle FC
Sporting stars recognised at Caerphilly Sport Awards 2024

Volunteer of the Year

Recognising individuals who give their time to support clubs and communities.

  • Lee Couzens – Caerphilly Tennis Club
  • Matt Roberts – Wattsville FC
  • Alexi Pipe – Caerphilly Junior Netball

Community Coach of the Year

This award is for coaches who inspire and develop others through sport.

  • Annaliese Lewis – Cascade Youth Club
  • Jay Collis – Caerphilly Castle FC
  • Jon Scriven – Caerphilly Boxing Club
  • Lucy Hodges – Trecelyn Netball
  • Michaela Pine – Sport Caerphilly

Club of the Year

Celebrating clubs making a positive difference in their communities.

  • Treowen Stars
  • Blackwood Bowls
  • Raiders Basketball Club
  • Sue Noake Hockey Club
  • Brav Performance
  • Pentwynmawr Athletic FC
  • Ystrad Mynach FC Girls

Lifetime Achievement to Sport

Recognising individuals who have dedicated a lifetime of service and commitment to local sport.

  • Karen Williams – Caerphilly Junior Netball Club
  • Alison Dacey – Ystrad Mynach Netball Club

Meanwhile, two “high-profile” inductees will be welcomed into the Team Caerphilly Sports Wall of Fame, recognising lifelong contributions to sport in the borough.
