Late night opening proposals at a Caerphilly takeaway have failed to win the support of councillors.
Members of the county borough council’s licensing committee voted unanimously to refuse a bid for later closing times at Philly Grill, on the town’s Cardiff Road.
Their decision follows concerns from a council environmental health officer, who said later opening times would impact on nearby residents.
She said the potential for noise relating to extraction equipment and customers parking in residential areas were among the department’s concerns.
The applicant, Awais Ahmad, had hoped to extend his daily closing time to 2am from the current 11pm.
He told the committee the business would put measures in place to mitigate any late night noise or nuisance, including litter sweeps, turning off music and keeping the front door closed after 11pm.
He also argued other businesses nearby opened until late, and he said no members of the public had objected to his plans during a consultation period.
But Mr Ahmad was unable to persuade the committee’s members, who said in their decision it was “not considered that the promotion of the licensing objectives may be adequately controlled or mitigated by conditions in this instance”.
