A three-bedroom house and its outbuildings could be demolished to make way for 21 new homes in Oakdale.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s planning committee, on Wednesday November 12, heard the new development near Oakdale Athletics Club would include a mixture of houses, flats and wheelchair-accessible bungalows.
The current property, Tŷ Penywaen, would be knocked down, along with its barns, to create new access to the development site.
A council report shows five objections were lodged against the application, focusing on traffic concerns around the site’s access, privacy, and pressures on local services.
But planning officers recommended the development be approved, noting a “need to increase the housing land supply”.
“Whilst the overall amount of housing proposed on the site would not make a significant contribution to the overall delivery of housing, it would make a much needed contribution towards affordable housing,” the planners said.
They added the proposed development “offers the opportunity to deliver a well-designed, and inclusive scheme that responds positively to its surroundings”.
Members of the planning committee agreed to grant permission for the development if the applicant, Life Property Group, enters a Section 106 agreement with the council to provide 25% affordable housing.
