Two people have been arrested after an attempted robbery in Caerphilly.

The incident reportedly happened at a shop on St Cenydd Road, Trecenydd, at around 10.30am on Thursday December 18.

Police officers attended alongside specially trained firearms officers as a precaution.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: “A man, who claimed to be in possession of a weapon and with a scarf covering his face, is believed to have entered the address at around 10.30am and threatened a staff member before leaving.

“There were no reports of any injuries, and nothing was taken from the store.”

The statement continued: “Enquiries led officers to an address in East Avenue, where a 49-year-old man from Cardiff has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and possession of a class B controlled drug.”

A 36-year-old woman from Caerphilly was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police confirmed no weapons were found following a search.

The force added: “It is likely that residents will see an increased number of officers in the area while we carry out further enquiries.”
