Fifty Christmas hampers have been delivered to families in need this year

The ‘Everyone Deserves a Christmas’ campaign has seen 50 festive hampers delivered to families most in need around the Upper Rhymney Valley.

The initiative, led by Labour MP Nick Smith, who represents Blaenau Gwent and Rhymney, and Welsh Labour deputy leader Carolyn Harris, ensures families can have a Christmas meal, as well as other food items.

Each hamper included a range of non-perishable food items alongside fresh ingredients and festive treats.

Recipients were identified by Caerphilly County Borough Council and partner organisations, such as Supporting People, Tenancy Support, and the Youth and Family Support Team – which worked with residents to ensure support reached those who would benefit most.

Rhymney Library served as the main distribution point for the hampers, ensuring families would receive them in time for Christmas.

Caerphilly Council deputy leader Carol Andrews, who is the cabinet member for education, communities, and transformation, praised the initiative.

Cllr Andrews, who visited Rhymney Library as the hampers were delivered, said: “For many people, Christmas can be a difficult and worrying time.

“Working closely with partners and frontline services allows us to identify those most in need and offer support where it will have the greatest impact.

“Initiatives like this help ensure families and individuals feel supported and valued during the festive period.”
