A “disused” office in Ystrad Mynach has been proposed for conversion into a new HMO (house in multiple occupation).
Tony Jordon has submitted proposals to Caerphilly County Borough Council to redevelop a former charity office at 36 Penallta Road.
HMOs are residential properties which typically house single, unrelated adults who have their own private bedrooms but share other areas, such as kitchens and living rooms.
In this case, the existing ground floor office space would be converted into two bedrooms, while the kitchen would remain unchanged and the toilets would be remodelled to include a bathroom.
Upstairs, office space would be turned into three bedrooms, and an existing interview room would be changed into two bathrooms.
According to a supporting statement by planning agents Creation Design-Wales, the building is currently vacant and is in a “mixed residential and commercial area with good access to local amenities and public transport”.
The agents said that if the development is approved, “the property will be managed to ensure that it remains in good condition and that any potential issues related to noise or antisocial behaviour are promptly addressed”.
The application is currently under consideration, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 25/0777/COU.
