Extra changing rooms could be built from shipping containers at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.

New plans show Caerphilly County Borough Council, which owns and runs the site, plans to use the containers for football players and officials during matches.

The new changing rooms have been earmarked for land currently occupied by a bin store, bike storage and disabled parking bays.

Designs show the two containers proposed for teams would each have a changing area with benches, four showers and a small toilet area.

The officials’ separate changing area would be smaller but still include its own shower and toilet areas.

The council describes the Centre for Sporting Excellence as a “leading multi-sports venue” used by teams from local sports clubs, schools and colleges.

It is also the primary training base for regional rugby union side Dragons RFC.

The application is currently under consideration, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 25/0859/LA.
