Extra changing rooms have been approved at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.

The changing rooms will be fashioned from shipping containers and placed alongside the centre’s football pitch for use by players and match officials.

The land is currently used for bike and bin storage and disabled car parking.

Each of the containers will have changing areas, showers and toilets installed, and will be clad in timber on the outside.

A planning officer’s report shows there were no neighbour objections to the proposals during a recent public consultation period, but Welsh Water did flag that the site was close to water mains.

Officers granted planning permission subject to several conditions.

The Centre for Sporting Excellence is the council’s “leading multi-sports venue” and is used for training and matches by local sports clubs and schools.

It also serves as the main training base for the regional rugby side Dragons RFC.
