A gym in Pontllanfraith hopes to expand and offer a “safer and more efficient” layout for its users.

Elite Fitness has applied for planning permission to change the use of three new neighbouring units at Newbridge Industrial Estate, where it is based.

According to planning documents, the new space would serve as an “open plan running and functional training” area and include “Hyrox-style” circuits.

Planning agents Dell Designs Ltd said “crucially, the expansion is not intended to significantly increase membership numbers” but would instead improve the gym’s layout and “relieve pressure within the existing gym areas”.

The new units form part of a recent development which gained planning permission in late 2025.

Currently classed for general business, industrial or storage uses, the units would be free to use for indoor sport, recreation or fitness if planning permission is granted.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0099/COU.
