Proposals for new flats at a former pub in Bargoed have been revived, after a first application was turned down by council planners.
Officers at Caerphilly County Borough Council rejected Ayyan Properties Ltd’s original plan for the old McDonnell pub earlier this year, because it included a new takeaway they said would have an “unacceptable impact” on residents.
Amended plans have now been put forward, dropping the takeaway idea but retaining proposals for seven flats on the building’s upper floors.
The plans show four flats would be built on the first floor, each including an open plan kitchen and living area, as well as a bathroom.
Three of those first-floor flats would have one bedroom, while the fourth would have a second bedroom.
On the property’s loft level, three more one-bedroom flats have been proposed.
When the previous application was refused, council planners raised concerns one of those top-floor flats would have a skylight for its bedroom, rather than a window.
A supporting statement for the new application states the flat has been redesigned to overcome those concerns.
Similarly, the original proposal for a ground-floor takeaway has been removed from the new plans, and that section of the property will remain part of the existing convenience store.
The new application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0112/COU.
