CAERPHILLY: New ‘high-quality’ flats proposed above village shop

Proposals for two new flats above an Abertridwr shop have been given the green light.

The property at 1 The Square will retain a retail unit on the ground floor, with two new homes above, according to the plans submitted by applicant Chris Davies.

Each flat will have one bedroom, an open-plan kitchen and living area, and a bathroom.

A Caerphilly County Borough Council planning report shows one public objection was submitted, focusing on parking concerns and alleging a consultation period had not given neighbours enough time to examine the application.

The council planners disputed the timeframe concerns and said the local authority’s highways officer had raised no objections to the proposals on parking grounds.

They granted planning permission subject to several conditions.

Previously, Davies Property Developments said on social media they wanted to “bring the building up to date while keeping its character and purpose within the community”.

“Our aim is to create two high-quality, fully upgraded homes while preserving the shop as an important part of the valley’s high street and history,” the developers added.
