More than 2,300 visitors attended Caerphilly town centre on Saturday July 4 to mark this year’s Pride Caerffili, according to official footfall figures.
The family-friendly event featured a parade through the town alongside live music and street entertainment.
The parade started at around 12pm and went through the town – past St Martin’s Church, down Cardiff Road, and past Caerphilly Castle before finishing in the Twyn car park.
Drag queen Miss Tina Sparkle officially opened the event, with Caerphilly’s DJ Katy Harriz performing a set at the event stage in the Twyn car park.
Food, drink, and craft stalls, support groups, and health representatives also lined the site.
The festivities continued into the evening at Ffos Caerffili.
It was the fourth year the event, organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council, was held.
Joanne Galazka, women’s and equalities officer at Unite Wales, described the event as “the best pride to date” and said the atmosphere was “really positive and vibrant”.
The need for us to come together is more important than ever to support our communities and LGBTQ+ members,” she said. “The number of conversations we had with young people and all generations highlighted the impact our presence has on communities like Caerphilly.
“It was so many people’s first experience of Pride, and we are proud to play a small part in that. People also expressed they felt safe and supported to be their authentic selves.”
Council leader Jamie Pritchard echoed Ms Galazka’s views and said: “We will be starting preparations for Pride 2027 very soon. Onwards and upwards.
