A Blackwood community group has handed over £3,000 to the Wales Air Ambulance following a year of local fundraising events.

Members of Moose International’s Blackwood lodge recently presented the cheque to charity representative Rob Evans, following a 12-month campaign led by Blackwood town councillor Delwyn Davies, during his year as lodge chair.

The funds were raised through a series of community events across the borough, featuring live performances from the Moosehead band and local group Fuzz Junction.

Events were hosted at venues including New Tredegar Rugby Club, The Ruperra Arms, and the Square Royal in Bargoed.

Dance groups using the lodge’s hall, local quilters, and members running raffles also contributed to the total.

The Wales Air Ambulance relies entirely on public donations to raise £13 million annually to keep its helicopters and critical care cars operational.

Outgoing chair Cllr Davies has now handed over the role to incoming chair Colin Williams, who has chosen the Teenage Cancer Trust as the lodge’s beneficiary charity for the coming year.

The lodge’s next fundraiser, ‘Rock the Ruperra’, takes place on Saturday October 10 at The Ruperra Arms in New Tredegar.
Doors open at 12pm, featuring live music from Moosehead, Corrosive Band, Fuzz Junction, Wildside, Fogg, and Band of Brothers. Entry is £5 on the door.
