Former mayor raises £1,600 for family charity Home-Start Cymru

A former mayor of Caerphilly County Borough has raised more than £1,600 to support families in need.

The money was raised for family support charity Home-Start Cymru during Cllr Dawn Ingram-Jones’ term as mayor in 2025/26.

Home-Start Cymru works with parents who have at least one child under five, matching them with trained volunteers to provide practical and emotional help at home.

The £1,601 raised through council appeals, local business donations, and community council contributions will go towards the charity’s work in the local area.

Jayne Drummond, CEO of Home-Start Cymru, said: “We are so grateful to Cllr Ingram-Jones for choosing us as her charity of the year and for all the hard work she put into raising this incredible amount.

“That support has helped us give more children across Wales the best start in life.”

Ms Drummond added: “What means just as much to us is that her support hasn’t stopped there – she continues to raise awareness of our charity to this day. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Dawn.”

Cllr Ingram-Jones, who represents the Aberbargoed and Bargoed ward for Labour, said: “It was a great opportunity to support a charity that’s close to my heart. It was a pleasure to be able to help put the needs of children first and give them a better future.

“We’ve done a fair bit of fundraising for them – contacted local councillors, businesses and town community councils, and raised a bit of money for their efforts.”

Cllr Ingram-Jones was the last person to serve as mayor of Caerphilly County Borough, with the role officially being scrapped this year to save money.

The mayor served as the council’s ceremonial head and represented it at various functions, as well as welcoming dignitaries to the borough and carrying out charitable roles.
