First Minister visits Caerphilly town GP surgery

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Friday June 17th, 2011.

First Minister Carwyn Jones was in Caerphilly on Thursday visiting the Tonyfelin Medical Practice on Bedwas Road.

The GP surgery is the latest to install the “My Health Online” system, which allows patients to book and cancel appointments and request repeat prescriptions via the internet.

The £1.7m Welsh Government scheme aims to boost health and social care services through digital technologies.

Mr Jones said: “The GP practice is often a patient’s first port of call, and making an appointment should therefore be as straightforward as possible.

“The Welsh Government is committed to speeding up the development of online appointments for flexible GP booking, which for many patients is more convenient, and reduces administration for the GP practice.”
