Police in Rhymney conducted a 12-hour crackdown on vehicle crime on Thursday.
The operation concentrated on fuel thefts and thefts of and from vehicles in the area.
Officers from Rhymney Police Station, officers from Gwent Police’s Roads Policing Units, and the DVLA took part.
Checkpoints were based at routes throughout Rhymney to carry out checks and searches.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology was used to check vehicles wanted by police.
In total, 38 vehicles were stopped with the following results:
1 Arrest and charge for drink driving.
5 Cars seized for no insurance
6 Fixed penalties for driving without a seatbelt.
1 Fixed Penalty for driving while using a mobile phone.
1 Reported with No MOT.
1 Reported with No Tax.
Cerris Cotterell, the newly appointed police constable for the Twyn Carno Ward, organised the operation explained.
He said: “We are pleased with the results of this operation but our work will continue and we are aiming to arrange similar operations throughout Rhymney in the very near future.
“We would like to thank members of the public for their help and co-operation during this operation and for the valuable information they have given to us .
“Intelligence provided has contributed to making this operation such a success. We are urging residents to continue to contact us should they see any vehicles acting suspiciously in their local areas. Any information, no matter how small could help us with our enquiries.”
