100 motorists fined for illegal parking in Ystrad Mynach

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 08:30, Friday July 15th, 2011.

One hundred parking tickets were issued last month in Ystrad Mynach during a crackdown on illegal parking by police.

Caerphilly County Borough Council and Gwent Police handed out the £30 fines after complaints from residents, especially in Central Street.

Andrew Massaro, Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant for Ystrad Mynach, said: “Parking problems are a sensitive issue in Ystrad Mynach, we have to ensure that all residents and visitors to the town are treated in a fair and proportionate manner.

“By issuing the fines over the last month we hope we are sending a message that abuse of the traffic laws in the area will not be tolerated.”

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport said: “We are currently undertaking a review of the parking restrictions in Ystrad Mynach in order to ensure that they best meet the needs of local residents and businesses in the town centre.”

    Just to let people know.

Caerphilly Borough Council operate a policy which actually states that (if anyone did an FOI request on this) residents are only permitted one parking permit per household. The Council actually give out limitless numbers of permits per household, and therefore anyone challenging these fines should be able to get off with it. Its a joke.

Additionally, I know that the police have started to book residents in their own streets! After years of telling them that, even in 1 or 2 hour only areas, they would not be booked.

Its a complete and utter joke to label this as the police sticking up for residents – continually the same people park in Church and Central St – local businesses abusing the system and using other peoples council tax to get free parking!
