Gate plan to tackle antisocial behaviour in Blackwood

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:28, Thursday February 10th, 2011.

Plans to stop antisocial behaviour in Blackwood by ‘gating off’ a lane have moved forward.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet has agreed to support the proposed ‘gating order’ for the lane at the rear of numbers 37 to 73 Chartist Way, Blackwood.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport said: “Gating orders are an important tool in helping to tackle anti-social behaviour, and have the aim of preventing the perpetrators of the behaviour from congregating in the area and causing a disturbance.

“We have had some very pleasing results as a consequence of implementing gating orders in other areas of the county borough, and I am hopeful that this gating order could have similar results. We will not let the anti-social behaviour of a small minority adversely affect the lives of the majority”.

The next step is to start the legal process to implement the gating order.

Only emergency services, residents and those who rent council-owned garages directly linked to the lane would be issued with access keys.
