A youth worker from Ynysddu has been honoured for dedicating 27 years to the youth club he founded.
Staff and youngsters from Ynysddu Youth Club held a special evening of recognition recently to thank Colin Prosser for his commitment.
Colin worked in youth services, both as a paid Youth Worker and also as a volunteer at Ynysddu Youth Club.
He founded the club in 1984, and along with fellow members provided activities, advice and support for many young people in the local area.
When Colin’s paid employment came to an end, he decided to stay on as a volunteer, giving his time whenever he could to the club, and also to other local groups such as The Friends of Ynysddu.
He said: “It is so important for young people to have somewhere to go, where they can spend time with friends away from school and home.
“Youth workers provide support and can offer advice in an informal way, and I also believe it is important for young people to have somewhere to go in their own community, where they can feel a sense of ownership. This really can make such a positive difference to the lives of young people”.
Cllr Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education, leisure and lifelong learning said: “Over the past 27 years, Colin has made such a positive difference to the lives of so many local young people – he should feel extremely proud of his achievement, and thoroughly deserves the recognition he has received from the young people and staff at Ynysddu Youth Club.”
