St David’s Day wedding a first for Llancaiach Fawr Manor House

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:16, Wednesday March 2nd, 2011.

Love was in the air at Llancaiach Fawr on St David’s Day as it hosted its first licensed wedding in the Manor House.

The happy couple, Cerys Harte and Peter Garland got married in the picturesque setting of Llancaiach Fawr Manor House’s Great Hall, near Nelson.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Mayor, Cllr James Fussell and his consort Mrs Catherine Fussell also surprised the couple by presenting the newlyweds from Pontypridd with a bottle of champagne to help them celebrate the happy day.

While a number of weddings have previously taken place in the Conservatory and Barn within the Manor’s grounds, this was the first wedding held in the Manor House itself.

A council spokeswoman said: “Cerys looked stunning in a wedding dress made in the Welsh flag, the pageboys’ waistcoats were adorned with the Welsh flag and the celebratory meal even included Welsh lamb.”

We have'nt been to celebrate a wedding for some time, so it was great to offer the newlyweds our congratulations and commend their choice of wedding venue.

Llancaiach Fawr offers so much in terms of history, Cerys and Peter will now be part of this ongoing living historic building.

All the best for the future .

    James Fussell
