Home built with Crumlin-made building material up for award

A bungalow built from a recycled material made in Crumlin has been nominated for a sustainability award.

The home, which has been put forward for next week’s Building Excellence Awards, was built with Durisol – an eco-friendly material made from recycled timber.

Made by Durisol UK, based on the Pen-Y-Fan Industrial Estate, no energy is used to heat or dry the material as it is manufactured.

Any waste Durisol is returned to Crumlin to be recycled again, and even recycled rain water from the factory roof is used during manufacturing.

The bungalow nominated for the award, which is in Swansea, was designed specifically to suit the needs of the Murphy family, one of whom has cerebral palsy.
