Eleven new police officers have begun their beat after graduating from training.

The officers took part in a passing out parade on Friday and have been welcomed by Gwent Police Chief Constable Mick Giannasi.

He said: “These officers join the eleven others who were welcomed into the force in the first ever Gwent Police Passing Out Parade in December last year.

“The event signifies the end of initial training and the start of their policing career.

“In addition to these new officers and the transferees from other UK forces that have joined us in recent months we also intend to recruit a further 150 officers in the coming year, further increasing the number of frontline officers serving our communities.”

The eleven officers will continue to be assessed through their two year probationary period, during which time they must achieve a Level 3 Diploma qualification in Basic Policing.
