Caerphilly Council agrees to move sign after AM complains

A speed warning sign blocking a pavement is to be moved after Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert raised the issue with Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The sign, in the middle of the pavement at Nelson Road, Ystrad Mynach, is located in the middle of the pavement, obstructing pedestrians and those with pushchairs or who use mobility scooters.

Mr Cuthbert said: “While I welcome moves to reduce the speed of motorists driving along Nelson Road, this warning sign has been placed in a very inconvenient location.

“People trying to pass by using pushchairs or mobility scooters will have great difficulty in doing so, and this is potentially dangerous with regular traffic passing by.

“I have sought assurances from Caerphilly County Borough Council that residents’ concerns will be addressed. I have been told that work to move the sign to a more suitable location will start as soon as possible and I certainly welcome this.”

A Caerphilly Council spokeswoman said: “Our officers corresponded via email with Mr Cuthbert AM last month detailing that the location of the signpost has been assessed.

“It has been agreed that it should be relocated to a more suitable location where it would be less likely to impede pedestrian movements. Arrangements have therefore been made for this work to be programmed as soon as possible.”
