New Ystrad Mynach dodgeball and dance club

Youngsters aged between seven and 17 can get fit with a new sporting club.

Every Tuesday at the Ystrad Mynach Boys and Girls Club, in Lisburn Road, youngsters can take part in the sessions.

Dodgeball is between 5.30pm and 6.30pm and dancing is between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

The sessions are run in partnership with Sport Caerphilly, the Sports Council for Wales 5×60 scheme and the Ystrad Mynach Partnership.

Councillor Alan Angel, chair of the Ystrad Mynach Community Partnership, said: “Our club will provide young people with something new to do in the evenings, but will also help them to get fit, learn new skills and have fun at the same time.

“I think it’s a fantastic idea and I hope that it will be a hit with young people for a long time to come.”

The club was officially opened by Cllr Lindsay Whittle, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, who even took part in a little “locking” and “popping” of his own.

Cllr Whittle said: “This facility provides an opportunity for youngsters in the local community to continue to develop the skills and fun that they have in school 5×60 sessions, keep fit and active as well as make new friends in a safe environment.”
