Islwyn MP Chris Evans recently spent a few hours as a nursery milk monitor, but this week it was the turn of Plaid Cymru AM Lindsay Whittle to try his hand at serving tea and cake.
The former leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council visited Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital tea bar on Monday, run by volunteers from the WRVS.
Mr Whittle said: “Volunteers like these are the backbone of our community, and I would to pay tribute to all the WRVS volunteers who work tirelessly to improve the well-being of staff and patients here at the hospital. WRVS provide invaluable services that wouldn’t be available were it not for the dedication of volunteers.
“I would like to express a big thank you to WRVS and all their volunteers.”
Wendy Marshall, WRVS Service Delivery Manager for South East Wales, said: “We are really pleased to welcome Mr Whittle to the WRVS services at the Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital. Having a chance to meet with our volunteers and experience the service at the hospital first-hand is a fantastic way to experience just how important the shop is to those who use it, and why the volunteers enjoy their work so much.”
The WRVS tea bar provides customers with more than a place to have a cup of tea. The volunteers are happy to have a chat and lend a sympathetic ear to those who are visiting loved ones at the hospital.
All the profits from the shop go back into the Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital.
