Police are to return to the Spar shop where a newborn baby boy was found dead.
One week since the discovery of the baby at the rear of the shop in Newport Road, Cwmcarn, officers are re-appealing for information in an effort to identify the baby’s mother.
Today officers will be speaking to residents and handing out leaflets in the hope that someone may have information to help the investigation.
A new picture of an item found with the baby, who officers have named Patrick, has also been released.
It is of a light blue fleece blanket, approximately 70cm by 85 cm in size with curved corners, stitched edges and with a “Baby Bear” motif in one of the corners.
Officers had already released some images of Patrick’s clothing.
- A bath size towel bought from Dunelm. The towel is white with a gingerbread man and heart design on it.
- A blue and white striped long sleeve top, with buttons at the neck, aged 3-6 months from Next (part of a three piece set).
- An orange beach towel manufactured by Arencibia, an outlet based on Gran Canaria.
Also found with Patrick was a George orange vest top, size 14.
Superintendent Jon Burley said: “We are continuing our investigation and, again, would like to reiterate that our main concern lies with the health and well being of the mother who may need support physically and undoubtedly, emotionally.
“We continue to appeal for information in an effort to identify the mother of the baby, who we have named Patrick as we believe he would have been born on or around St Patrick’s Day, or for anyone who has information that may help the investigation.
“We are quite sure that someone out there has an idea of who she is – she must have been very heavily pregnant until recently.
“The images we have released are of quite distinctive items. While the Next top and the white towel look new, so they must have been bought very recently.
“The blue fleece blanket doesn’t look new, so we would appeal to anyone who might have given it to a charity shop or perhaps have put it into a car boot sale to contact us.
“The orange towel could perhaps have been brought back from a holiday on Gran Canaria recently. Anyone with information, however small, should get in touch.
“We have received a lot of support from the community so far and we would ask that this continues.
“This is a tragic incident and our priority remains to find Patrick’s mother ,”
Police would also ask anyone with concerns about somebody they know, a friend or member of their family who they think could possibly be
connected to this incident to contact them as soon as possible.
