Thousands of people are expected to attend this year's Big Baloon Festival - if the weather holds.

The countdown has begun to this year’s Big Balloon weekend in Blackwood.

The annual extravaganza is expected to once again attract the crowds.

The Big Balloon Festival will begin at noon on Sunday with a variety of entertainment on offer over the two days.

Balloons of all shapes, sizes and colours will be displayed at the Show Fields and, weather permitting, a mass balloon launch will take place on both days at 6pm.

The highlight of the weekend is the spectacular nightglow and fireworks display, which takes place on the Sunday evening and attracts thousands of people.

The event also boasts a fantastic funfair with rides and attractions to suit people of all ages.
Caerphilly County Borough Council has organised a free bus service to ferry visitors to the festival site.

The bus will pass through a number of communities including Aberbargoed, Bargoed, Blackwood, Fleur-de-Lys, Glan-y-Nant and Oakdale.

The service will run on Sunday August 30 and Bank Holiday Monday.
