Police promise ‘zero tolerance’ to antisocial behaviour in Cefn Fforest

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 12:33, Thursday October 13th, 2011.

Gwent Police has promised a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to antisocial behaviour at the Welfare Ground in Cefn Fforest.

Officers have said they are targeting underage drinking in the area with high visibility patrols.

Last weekend officers from the Blackwood Neighbourhood Police Team made 40 Antisocial Behaviour referrals. They also arrested a girl for drunk and disorderly, who also received a final warning.

Police are also targeting parents urging them to know where their children are during evenings and weekends.

They have recently sent a text message to parents of pupils at Blackwood Comprehensive School.

Mark Smith, the new Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector, who joined officers on patrol on Friday, said: “I am extremely pleased with the results and would also like to thank those responsible parents who took note of the school text by not letting their children contribute to the levels of anti-social behaviour seen in recent weeks.

“Also the children themselves, and with only one exception were extremely well behaved. We want to remind youths that we are taking a strong stance on anti-social behaviour in the area, there is a lot more work to be done and I will ensure further weekend patrols take place to reassure the local community.”
