The leader of Caerphilly County Borough led council staff in a rendition of Max Boyce anthem Hymns and Arias at the local authority’s HQ Penallta House in Ystrad Mynach.

Cllr Allan Pritchard strapped on his guitar and encouraged council employees to join him in the singalong.

Hundreds of staff turned up to work in red rugby jerseys to support the Welsh team as the nation counts down to the historic World Cup semi-final match against France on Saturday.

An estimated 60,000 are expected to turn-up at the Millennium Stadium Saturday morning to watch the match on the big screen at 9am.

The Welsh Assembly’s Presiding Officer Rosemary Butler AM has issued a good luck message to the Welsh rugby team ahead of the match.

“On behalf of all Assembly Members and staff, I would like to wish everyone in the Welsh squad the best of luck for tomorrow’s game against France,” said Mrs Butler.

“To reach this stage of the competition for the first time in 24 years is a remarkable achievement and the players’ performances in the World Cup so far have lifted the spirit of the nation.

“We all hope they can progress to the final but whatever happens on Saturday we are already very proud of their professional attitude, flair and determination.”
