General Election
Well, the world’s worst kept secret has been revealed – the General Election takes place on Thursday, May 6.
I’ve been campaigning for quite a while as I’m standing in Caerphilly and I am very pleased at the reaction on the doorstep. I love talking to people and a lot of those who vote Plaid Cymru locally have told me that this time they will back the party in a UK election
One of the key issues worrying voters is the economy – jobs, unemployment and the enormous debt mess the UK Labour Government has got in. Also, people are still furious at the appalling behaviour of MPs from all the main parties who have their noses in the trough for far too long.
I can guarantee if I was elected I would put Caerphilly first – and I wouldn’t have to follow any London-based party line. If there is a hung Parliament then I know that Wales will get a better deal than if the UK is ruled by one of the two discredited political parties.
I also wanted to say how delighted I am that Ron Davies has declared his support for my campaign. To have such a talented politician, who has held high office in the UK Government, backing me is great.
Garden Safe
I attended the recent Garden Safe event at Gilfach Bargoed Community Centre, organised by trading standards to raise awareness of safety in and around the gardens.
For instance, if your electric mower or hedge trimmer has been in storage over the winter check that there has been no damage to wiring, plugs or cords. Also it is important that any valuable electrical equipment is kept secure.
Information was available on taking care in the sun safety, making gardens safe for pets and even poisonous plants.
The event featured advice on cooking using home produce while TV horticultural expert Terry Walton gave an interesting talk about allotments.
I know many more people are looking to grown their own – because it helps you keep fit, the produce tastes great and it can save you money as well, important during these tough economic times.
I also took the opportunity to take at community allotments which are under development near the community centre under the guidance and hard work of John Pritchard. I’m aware similar schemes have been developed in places like Cardiff and have been hugely successful. I’m certain the same will be the case in Caerphilly County Borough.
