Police warning after van thefts in Caerphilly and Ystrad Mynach

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Wednesday October 6th, 2010.

Police in the Caerphilly and Ystrad Mynach areas are warning motorists to be vigilant after a spate of thefts.

Recently tools have been stolen from nine vans in the area. A variety of equipment has been stolen including tool boxes, soldering equipment and various drills and drill bits.

Police are offering the following advice to motorists:

  • Where possible, remove tools from your vehicle overnight. Remove them to a secure, locked area.
  • Always make sure you have locked your vehicle when you leave it.
  • Close the windows on your vehicle.
  • Set your alarm or immobiliser if you have one.
  • Keep your keys in a safe place and never leave them in the ignition.

Paul Staniforth, Neighbourhood Inspector for Bedwas and Caerphilly, said: “We are urging motorists, and in particular van drivers to take extra care with their vehicle security following this spate of thefts. Where possible I would encourage them to take the tools out of their vehicles overnight and transfer them to a secure, locked area.”

Anyone with information about the recent thefts is asked to contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
