A mother-of-four from New Tredegar was killed by her partner after she changed her Facebook status from married to single, Cardiff Crown Court was told today.

Hayley Jones, 26, was found stabbed at the family home by her children in March 2007.

Brian Lewis, 31, of New Tredegar, denies her murder.

The prosecution said Lewis strangled and stabbed Ms Jones at their home in the Phillipstown area on March 12.

On March 2, she changed her Facebook status from married to single and she made it clear their relationship was over

Mark Evans, prosecuting, told the court the unmarried couple, had been together since Ms Jones was 13.

The court was told that Lewis attacked Ms Jones with a kitchen knife at 4am as she was asleep on the sofa.

He then called police telling them to come to the address but fled.

He later gave himself up at Blackwood Police Station.

The trial continues.
