Have your say on regeneration of Caerphilly town centre

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Wednesday October 20th, 2010.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration, has met traders in Caerphilly town centre to discuss the area’s redevelopment.

Cllr Davies spoke at a meeting of the Caerphilly Independent Retailers Partnership and provided more details about a public consultation over the future of the town centre.

Residents and traders can have their say on a number of key development sites within the town at the exhibition in the Tourist Information Centre until October 31.

The exhibition will give people an opportunity to contribute to the new Town Centre Action Plan that sets out how Caerphilly will be developed over the coming years.

Cllr Davies said: “Town centre regeneration is a key priority for the council and in order for Caerphilly to develop and grow, a clear vision is needed to drive the town forward.

“Caerphilly offers shoppers and visitors a unique, historic experience and we need to capitalise on these benefits and encourage even more investment opportunities. I would encourage as many people as possible to go along and be part of this exciting chance to help shape the future of Caerphilly.”

The exhibition is open to the public all this month and officers from the council will be on hand to answer any questions on the following dates:

  • Wednesday October 20, 3pm to 5.30pm
  • Saturday October 23, 10am to 12.30pm
  • Monday October 25, 3pm to 5.30pm

Last year plans for a multimillion pound redevelopment of the upper part of Caerphilly town centre were derailed because of a lack of public funding.

In August this year it was revealed that pub chain JD Wetherspoon had shown interest in taking over the disused CoCo building at the top of town.

For more information about the exhibition and the Town Centre Action Plan call the council on 01495 235067.
