Officers from Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing were in for a treat and not a trick when they visited Gilfach Fargoed Primary School gardening club this week.
Over the last few weeks Gwent Police officers have been promoting their ‘No Callers Please’ pumpkin posters, for residents who do not want to be disturbed on Halloween..
As part of the campaign, officers have been visiting schools in the area with their oversized pumpkin – but Gilfach Fargoed Primary School did one better by showing the cops the giant pumpkins which they had grown themselves.
PCSO Catherine Jones said: “We really enjoyed speaking to the children and helping them pick their pumpkins from the garden.
“We spoke to them about the importance of respecting others on Halloween and how important it was to be safe and responsible.”
PC Bethan Sturgess, from Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Halloween should be enjoyed by the whole family. For some, especially the elderly and vulnerable members of our communities, it can be a very intimidating time, especially if they have unknown and unwelcome callers at their doors.
“By using the pumpkin posters, they can make sure that their wishes are known to callers.”
Mrs Lewis, head teacher of Gilfach Fargoed Primary School, said: “When the officers visited the school we thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to get everyone involved with the unearthing of our giant pumpkins.
“It was a great way for the officers to engage with the children which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.”
