Caerphilly Council adopts Local Development Plan

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Tuesday November 30th, 2010.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has become the council in Wales to adopt a new Local Development Plan (LDP) – a blueprint to guide future development.

The LDP sets out the council’s policies and proposals to control land use up until 2021. The preparation of the document, agreed by councillors last week, has included extensive public consultation and a public examination by an independent Planning Inspector.

Controversially, the former Bedwas colliery site has been earmarked in the plan for a future housing development – despite fears from residents of the land being contaminated.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said: “It’s great to see that Caerphilly is once again leading the way in Wales.

“The preparation of this major strategic document has been a huge task and I’d like to thank all those who have contributed to this process.”

Keys areas covered by the LDP include the council’s development strategy, guidance on housing provision, employment and commercial development, protection of the environment and transportation issues.
