Visitor numbers across Caerphilly County Borough increase

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Friday March 16th, 2012.

Llancaiach Fawr

The number of visitors to attractions across Caerphilly County Borough increased significantly during 2011, new figures reveal.

Llancaiach Fawr Manor in Nelson, Caerphilly Castle, Cwmcarn Forest and the Winding House Museum in New Tredegar all saw increases compared to 2010.

Sixteenth Century Manor House Llancaiach Fawr, which has very popular ‘dress-up’ period characters, saw its visitor numbers swell by a third.

Caerphilly County Borough Council, which runs the attraction, has attributed the rise to a combination of large events and an increase in visitors touring the Manor House in the day and in the evening for Ghost Tours

Cwmcarn Forest in the Nantcarn Valley continues to attract walkers, cyclists and campers with its visitor numbers increasing to more than 192,000 compared to 178,000 in 2010.

Caerphilly Castle also saw a 4% increase in its number of visitors

Jan – Dec 2010 Jan – Dec 2011 % change
Llancaiach Fawr 45,487 59,044 29.80%
Cwmcarn Forest 178,059 192,243 7.96
Winding House 8,657 10,563 22.00%
