St James’ Primary School children sing at London’s O2

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Friday March 16th, 2012.

Children St James’ Primary School in Caerphilly got the chance to sing in front of 6,500 at London’s prestigious O2 venue.

The pupils, aged between seven and 11, travelled to the former Millennium Dome last week to take part in Young Voices – a series of concerts bringing together school choirs from across the country.

St James’ was one of only two schools from Wales to take part.

Teacher Bethan Jones said the 29 pupils had a great time.

She said: “The schools apply to go to the concert and then we’re sent a pack with music and DVDs to play in our school and learn the songs.

“It was a massive audience for them and they really enjoyed it. There were 29 pupils and quite a few parents came as well.

“It was an amazing experience for the children to go somewhere like that and have a whale of a time. We didn’t get back home until 2am but it was all worth it.
