Valleys AM appeals for action against homelessness

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Wednesday March 28th, 2012.

Plaid Cymru AM Lindsay Whittle has called for an urgent Welsh Government bill to help tackle growing homelessness

He raised the issue in questions to First Minister Carwyn Jones, who said that a review of homeless legislation was planned.

Mr Whittle, a former housing manager, said that he was aware of plans for a draft bill in 2013 but added: “Over the past two years, homelessness has increased by 15% and the percentage of households having to live in bed-and-breakfast accommodation has rocketed by 29%.

“First Minister, in view of these ever-increasing numbers of young people in Wales suffering the degradation of homelessness, will you please ensure that action is taken before that proposed date of “sometime in 2013” to introduce a draft Bill that will address this major social problem?”
