Weekend Closure – A472 Ystrad Mynach

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:12, Tuesday May 8th, 2012.

A section of the A472 in Ystrad Mynach will be closed to traffic this weekend for essential resurfacing works – subject to weather conditions.

The original closure date (Sunday April 29) was postponed by the council due to heavy rain.

Diversions will be in place to allow the closure of the A472 (Cwm Du to Royal Oak Roundabout) on Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13.

Access to Ystrad Mynach town centre will remain open except from Royal Oak roundabout. Buses will still operate with appropriate changes to route. Access to Royal Oak Public House will be maintained from Commercial Street.

Actual closure points will be Caerphilly Road south (north of Rugby Club access), Tredomen Road / Caerphilly Rd north (below access to Holy Trinity Church) and Commercial Street (south of workman’s hall). The A469 junction at roundabout with A472 west bound will also be closed.

HGVs will be required to divert via Tredomen roundabout – Gelligaer – Penpedairheol – and back on Hengoed Road to north of Hengoed viaduct because of height & weight restrictions.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible and find alternate routes.
