Blackwood Little Theatre to build community links with Canada

Blackwood Littlre Theatre will be performing its play Godfather Death in Canada

A community theatre company based in Blackwood will be treading the boards at an international theatre festival this month.

Blackwood Little Theatre will be travelling to the Liverpool International Theatre Festival in Nova Scotia, Canada, where they will perform their play Godfather Death.

The Liverpool International Theatre Festival has visiting theatre companies from Spain, Iran, South Africa and America. Blackwood Little Theatre will be the only company from Britain at the event.

Theatre Chairman Neil Maidman said: “We’re off to Canada on May 16 and one of the things we’re doing while we’re out there is going to a local school to teach them about Wales.

“We developed that idea with one of our guys and have included Blackwood Primary School.”

A livestream will be broadcast over the internet from Wickwire Academy in Liverpool, Canada, to Blackwood Primary.

Blackwood Little Theatre will also be taking a film of pupils from Blackwood singing Wel Hymn Calon Lan.

The theatre company will be performing The Godfather’s Death, a play written by playwright and theatre vice chair Vic Mills.
