Health board to hold Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr meeting

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Monday May 28th, 2012.

The Aneurin Bevan Health Board is to hold a public meeting on how the new £172m Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital has fared since its opening in November last year.

Public response to the new hospital has been mixed at best with public confusion over what services it offers. Critics of the new facility, such as Blackwood councillor Nigel Dix, have also labelled it a “cottage hospital” because of a lack of an A&E unit.

There has also been criticism of signage in the hospital leading to complaints to Labour MP Wayne David and AM Jeff Cuthbert, who then met health bosses.

The “Community Engagement Meeting”, to be held next month, will provide an opportunity for the public to find out more about the first six months of the new hospital.

The meeting will be held from 6.15pm to 8.15pm on Tuesday June 12 in the Council Chamber, Ty Penallta, Tredomen.

This will be the final meeting of the Community Engagement Forum with an opportunity to find out more about the range of services currently being provided in the hospital.

If you, or a group you belong to, wish to attend contact the health board’s Public Involvement Team on 01485 241244 to book a place.

Who receives the Caerphilly Observer? As the meeting was not advertised in neither the Caerphilly Campaign nor the Local View. It was only luck that I got to know of it. Perhaps the idea is not to let the public know just as the staff were not told or invited to the ‘official opening’ recently! I am cannot see why Lindsay Whittle blasts the critics of YYF, it is obvious he has not had to use the facilities himself.
