Lewis School Pengam produce music CD for the Cultural Olympiad at Caerphilly Castle

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Thursday May 31st, 2012.

Pupils at Lewis School Pengam have produced a five-track CD with the help of a leading music producer who has worked with the likes of The Stereophonics and Sir Tom Jones.

Music producer Steve Bush worked with the pupils and singer songwriter Amy Wadge, mentor to Brit award winner Ed Sheeran, to make the CD.

The songs will be part of the Cultural Olympiad at Caerphilly Castle on July 11, 12 and 13. The music will be used alongside artwork in a dance performance piece and the songs will also be performed live acoustically by one of the pupils.

Dr Chris Howard, headteacher of Lewis School Pengam, said: “Our music department believe that in 35 years this is the best project with the highest level of delivery they have ever seen.

“Amy has delivered over and above the brief and has mentored and supported the pupils and given them valuable insight into the music industry. Our pupils have enjoyed this project immensely and are excited to showcase their hard work to the world through the Cultural Olympiad.”

The CD, with its cover designed by the school’s art department, will have an official charity launch with a concert involving Amy and the pupils at Newbridge Memo on June 22.
