A council worker has been given a prestigious award for her work with Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Rhian Kyte, a team leader in the council’d Development Plan team, has scooped Planning Leader of the Year from the Royal Town Planning Institute Cymru.

Ms Kyte received the award for her hard work in producing the local authority’s Local Development Plan – a planning blueprint for the county borough. Caerphilly was the first local authority in Wales to adopt its plan.

She said: “I am extremely honoured and excited by this award. I believe the award recognises the work we have undertaken in Caerphilly in respect of the Local Development Plan and our collaborative work with other local planning authorities through the LDP Pathfinder Group.

“Clearly I could not achieve this on my own and I have an excellent team of dedicated and professional officers with whom I work.”

Cllr Ken James, cabinet member for regeneration, planning and sustainable development congratulated Ms Kyte on receiving the award.

He said: “Rhian has been instrumental in implementing a successful Local Development Plan. She has successfully managed her team to deliver above and beyond. Awards like this highlight the broad spectrum of talented staff working for Caerphilly County Borough Council, and the continued commitment to deliver the best results to our residents.”
