Flag to be raised for Armed Forces Day 2012

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:00, Monday June 11th, 2012.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is to mark Armed Forces Day with a flag raising ceremony outside its offices.

A short parade, led by the Royal British Legion, followed by a flag raising ceremony will be held at Penallta House, Ystrad Mynach on Saturday June 16 at 10am.

Residents are invited to attend the ceremony, which will be led by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Mayor, Cllr Gaynor Oliver.

Cllr Oliver said: “Armed Forces Day provides a wonderful opportunity to get together to raise awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and to show our support for all they do.

“I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and join us as we honour the men and women who make up our Armed Forces community.”

Following the formal proceedings, a special ‘Jubilee-themed’ Family Fun Day will take place in the grounds of the council’s headquarters, in support of the Royal British Legion.

The Fun Day, which will run from 10.30am until 3pm on the Saturday will offer fun for all the family – from bouncy castles and face painting for the children, through to classic cars and numerous stalls selling a wide variety of items including jewellery and cupcakes.
