St Cenydd School to hold its own Olympic games

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:00, Thursday July 12th, 2012.

St Cenydd Comprehensive School, near Trecenydd, is to hold its very own version of the Olympics on Friday.

The event is designed to inspire pupils in the school to try Olympic sports such as Archery, Blind Football, Taekwondo, Tennis, Curling and Cycling and many more.

The event has been organised by Young Ambassador Adistar pupils who applied for funding through the Physical Education School Sport (PESS) consortium and were awarded £500 to organise such an event.

Various sporting governing bodies will deliver some activities on the day alongside sports staff from Caerphilly County Borough Council and an army of volunteers.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, cabinet member for education said: “This is a truly pupil lead initiative. It is wonderful to see the Olympic spirit inspiring young ambassadors who are in turn inspiring their peers.”

Ian Kilcoyne, head teacher at St Cenydd, said: “We are really looking forward to the event, it’s a great chance for all our pupils to be inspired by the London 2012 games and I am really proud of the pupils who have planned and organised this from the very beginning.”
